Wasn't that in a song:  "She could whirl the Earl of Derby out of whirl"

(almost a Sound of Music reference)

Strange, I felt older yesterday, but now seem to have mentally reverted to my age of two days ago.

Maybe it's the fun of knowing HHW-ers will be here.

FACADE (Russell Oberlin, Hermione Gingold on Decca)

The Sitwell-Walton FACADE? I love that.

My step-mother always pronounced façade it with a hard "c" and a long "a"...most unseemly, but it always made us laugh and we never corrected her. Now my DH and I prounce it that way, as an inside joke. I'm always expecting that one day I'll mispronounce it out of habit and look really ignunt.

I'm off to the heirloom plant sale. (Instead of planting the ones that have been patiently waiting!)

Well, time to pack up and head to midtown.  Woo and Hoo.  There's just too much construction in Downtown to have wandering around be very enjoyable.  See you from the Edison

Too funny, I left the Downtown Marriott, took a taxi to midtown. The taxi driver kind of freaked because a road was closed so I got out and walked the last 2 blocks, got into the hotel, discovered they had a room, came to the room, unpacked a little got onto the wireless and no one has posted in the meantime

For being "the only room" they had available for early check in, I must say it's a nice room. Good sized for a single. I am very comfortable and happy to be in Midtown rather than Downtown

And as much as I like my friend Pam, I'm very happy to have my own room again.  Living alone has really spoiled me.

Ok, Time to head out. I need to get DR Samantha her birthday gift (It's May 10), and I know just what she wants.
Then the Edison for lunch.   Woo Hoo I'm in Midtown.....

Good morning!

A very lovely day out so far. Thunderstorms are predicted for tonight, but looks like the day will be just fine. Alas, I'll be spending most of it indoors.

I agree with you, BK, entirely on "Points on Jazz".  This has always been one of my favorite LPs.

I also wish that more of the Al Carmines musicals would make it to CD.  PEACE, IN CIRCLES, JOAN et. al. really deserve a CD release.  Considering how critically aclaimed and how popular the late Rev. Carmines was during his brief composing career from the late 60s to the mid 70s, very few people toay even remember him.

I still have THE OFFICE and 30 ROCK to watch from Thursday night. I'm looking forward to seeing both of them, and will watch them while eating lunch.

Today I'll be starting on a Comedy Central series I've never seen: DRAWN TOGETHER. This is the third season box set of the show. Looks to be out there like all of their animated series, but it should be fun to watch.

Thanks to the lovely DR Elmore and bk, one of my answers to the LP not on CD question has been rectified - the soundtrack to PORGY AND BESS which I received a couple of months ago and have enjoyed several times since receiving it. I never would have thought to look on Ebay if not for their suggestions.

Now, all I have left is STARS OF THE SILVER SCREEN, an RCA LP featuring original vocals of movie songs sung by the likes of Fannie Brice, Everett Marshall, John Boles, Bebe Daniels, Gloria Swanson, Helen Kane, George Jessel, Charles King, etc. These are not soundtrack recordings but rather studio versions of songs the stars sung in movies from 1929-1930. I finally transferred my scratchy LP to audiotape so I could listen to it without making the LP sound any worse than it already does. Still wish RCA would transfer this to CD.

Good morning all.

We had a wonderful time with Priscilla last night. Dinner, conversation, red velvet cake. What more could we want? And today we get to join other HHWs in another glorious meal prepared by Master Chef Skip. I'm salivating!!!

It's gloomy outside but we're happy inside.

Anthony is going to dance class and I'm going shopping then I will come home and ride the bike (in anticipation of a good meal) and then we will come home and watch something (I don't know what) before retiring to the bed chambers.

TOD:
The Beers Family Christmas Album on Columbia
ALL IN LOVE (Off-Broadway cast album, Jonathan Tunick's first recording credit??)
MAN WITH A LOAD OF MISCHIEF (Kapp Off-Broadway cast recording)
WESTERN SYMPHONY Ballet score (NYC Ballet Orchestra, another Kapp recording)
FACADE (Russell Oberlin, Hermione Gingold on Decca)

Hmm... I believe the Oberlin/Gingold "Façade" was on CD early on.  In fact, I think that may be recording I have of it.  I'll double-check my shelves, but I think that recording even garnered a couple of Rosettes from the Penguin Guide.

I'm also very fond of the three songs that Walton extracted/adapted from the suites.  Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has recorded them, but I first fell in love with them when I heard Pamela Armstrong sing them on one of her undergrad recitals when I was in college.

Hmm... Just checking online for the Oberlin/Gingold "Façade", and I don't see a listing for a CD release of it.  -I still have to check my shelves.  However, I'm wondering if I just think I had it, when, in fact, I had just listened to that recording at the school library on LP.  Hmm...

I'm up, I'm up.  elmore can rest easy, his orchestrator credit is in the program.  They didn't have it, but I made them aware that it had to appear there along with Larry Goldberg's vocal arrangement credit.

It's official!  In addition to this being a CILLA'S IN TOWN, YAY! party, we will honor BK (who brought this group together) by also making it THE EAST COAST OPENING PARTY FOR BK'S BRAIN.

Saturday morning greetings!  It's a work day for me - all information-waitressing.  It has also dawned on me that May is the first month of 2008 in which I will work more than one Saturday - and this month I have 3  :P.  But, I'm having to start building my vacation hours back up for a late summer long weekend in NYC and 2 vacations in October for family milestone events (my cousin's wedding in GA and Richard's graduation in WI).

That is loads of fun activities you need vacation time for :).

I wish we were going to Craig's graduation.  He said he may go and watch since Gore will be speaking, but he still isn't walking.

It is a shame that BK already has the opening night gifts.  I am sure that those Squirrel lamp How-to Books would be greatly appreciated.  Oh well.
