Poor Sherlock did not have a good day & now his tummy is upset.  First he couldn't understand why we didn't feed him breakfast or give him any treats.  Then we took him, and left him at that place where they do unpleasant things to him (aka the vet office).

Two hours later he was home & spent the rest of the day sleeping until the UPS guy came, at which point he stomped on my foot in order to bolt out the door.  He took the longest pee I have ever seem him do. ;D

The purpose of the visit was that the super hard chewer had two teeth that needed bonding.  The vet, a dental expert, said not bonding them could cause problems later.  While he was out for the dental work two skin tabs were removed, one by his eye & one under his lower lip.

I've been away for too long, but talking with FJL about the lovely birthday dinner Skip made for him has made me hungry, so I'm going to go out and forage, after which I shall return. I have finally caught up on all the posts!

And Grayson Hall.  Wasn't she in DARK SHADOWS?
I loved Grayson Hall! She was a neat lady.  wish i'd seen her in HAPPY END. She was a friend of my friend Leonora Hays.

Hi Edi.  Actually the guy was very nice & did not move his truck, though it was late & he wanted to leave, until Sherlock was safely back in the house.

I've decided to continue my Austen fixation, and I'm watching BECOMING JANE. Nice to see Ian Richardson. This must be one of the last things he did before his death.

The name "Grayson Hall" always makes me feel like we're talking about some stately, magnificent theater, similar to the way I feel about the name "Kelli Arena," the reporter on CNN.

My Subways are for Sleeping CD, which I bought in BK's big sale last year (or was it the year before?), is #769.  I didn't know until today that it was a limited edition.

The current leader of my book group has given us an assignment:

“Be thinking of some authors that you might be interested in reading either slightly older like Hemingway or more Modern, like Updike”

Any suggestions?

If they choose any of the Updike RABBIT books I will not re-read them.  Disliking them as I do, what are the chances I will like any of his other novels?

Good Evening!

I tried logging on after I got back from the gym, but our internet was acting up again, so...  In any case...

I had a great workout today, really pushed myself.  And survived!  I'm just hoping I've stretched the lactic acid out of my muscles - I do not want to be sore tomorrow.

The Book Launch was very cool.  The K2 Lounge at the Rubin Museum is a great space, and since they had a couple of events there tonight - including a sold out performance by Nellie Mackay - there was quite a good crowd there tonight.  There was no formal book signing "process" due to the way the room was arranged - the table where the authors were was on one side, and the "press area" with the free "tastings" was on the other side of the room.

The "tastings" were also strangely distributed.  The whole appetizer menu for the lounge was based on recipes from the new book.  You could order them from the bar and servers, or if you were with the Book Launch, you could get them for free.  However, the free ones consisted of two small trays with eight pieces of food on them and two dipping sauces.  Even my friend from the publishing house was a bit confused by the set up.  There was also a (cute) waiter standing by to make sure that only the people with the Book Launch partook of the free food.  Of course, once those two trays of food were picked over, no other food was brought out.  ???

Oh... And how about John Irving?

His, and Faulkner's, were the only two names I could think of-pathetic.

I did not like The World According to Garp!!.  I liked the movie Cider House Rules, did not read the book.  Do you have any special books of his to suggest?

The Book Launch

;D  It took me half a second to realize this statement was not a response to my question.

Well, they're both still writing, so...

It's a good, long read, but I adore Helprin's "Winter's Tale".
