The park began with eight acres in 1892 by the Chautauqua Association to bring entertainment and culture to southern Oregon.

I attempted to find an old photo of horses, horses & buggies, & people entering the park for an early Chautauqua gathering.  It is fun to see.

elmore, yours was shipped, as I said, on Monday.  You should have it in the next day or two.  This is some day off - I have not stopped once.  Car will be ready around three.

A day or two before the flood (I think the flood was on New Years Day) the water in creek was rising quickly.

Any excellent vibes and xylophones you can send that the bill is less than they quoted me would be ever so much appreciated.  They said right at the beginning that the quote was sans discounts they'd apply.  So, I'm praying and praying it will be less.

I'm really hungry and have no nausea, so that's good, but I'm still only going to do sandwiches today, just to be on the safe side.

I guess it's all the heavy partaying with DR FJL this week but today seems like Friday.

Still have to go to the mail place, too.  But after about four-thirty I'm not doing anything, not driving anywhere, and not picking up the phone unless it's a friendly number.

Since it's really Wednesday, I'm not partaying tomorrow or Friday. Gotta save my strength for Saturday.

I've decided to fly to Ohio the week of May 21-28, so that's now settled.

I'm glad to see you're giving yourself three weeks to get "steeled up" for it!

I forgot to mention to elmore that our reed player is very good, as is our drummer.  I do miss the second keyboard a lot, though.  On Fridays, however, we have a sub reed player for the entire run.  We'll see how he is this coming Friday.  He was there listening last night.

That gets me thinking about the insane store manager of Classic Books who hired me in 1984. She always claimed her illegitimate daughter (who we all suspected was imaginary since there were never photos or phone calls from her) was sired by a famous classical pianist. During my year there, several cashiers were dismissed because of continual shortages in their cash drawers.

About six months after I was there, it was discovered that the manager was involved in illegal activities involving the newly stocked videos. She had been stealing them and wrting up fake invoices, as I recall. It also turned out that she was dipping into cash drawers during the day and replacing the money on payday: the assistant manager was convinced she was having drug problems, which would account for her general demented behavior. I suspect several of the dismissed cashiers had balancing problems because of the manager's borrowing practices; it also wouldn't surprise me if she deliberately set several up for dismissal.

In early 1985, the Drama Book Shop asked me to come back and I left Classic Books. I liked the chain, the managers - even the crazy one who was always friendly and supportive of me - and I liked the job and most of my co-workers. Two of my favorite managers are now with the publisher Norton and with the MTA, both xcellent gentlemen. More for the memoirs.

More for the memoirs?  Like Hell!  There was no sex in that post.  There was drugs, and there was chicanery; but there was absolutely no sex.

But there was gender, doesn't that count for something anymore?

My eBay auction title:  CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE MINT DVD AND CD SET

My latest idiot eBay buyer question:  What condition is this in?  Does it include the DVD and the CD?
