Yes, I stayed up late so that I could have the FIRST POST of MAY!

In more than 40,000 posts, I have only done the First Post Dance Once....and now twice!

Yes it is too bad that we cannot see Porgy & Bess on the big screen. I have the LP, but I have never seen the movie.

And what an intriguing TOD.

Movies - well I would love to see THE HIGH POWERED RIFLE, a 1960 film produced and directed by Mr Maury Dexter and featuring a performance by Miss Allison Hayes. The film seems to have disappeared, so that will be at the top of my list.

Musicals - I would love to see a top drawer professional production of THE PAJAMA GAME.

Plays - I would like to see a top drawer professional production of The Country Girl by Mr Clifford Odets.

I would love to see productions of "The Good Companions", "Pacific Overtures", and, believe it or not, "Whistle Down The Wind". I guess there is still a chance that I will get to see "Wicked" and "Ragtime".

Play I would like to see: "Getting Away With Murder".
"Bounce" and "Saturday Night" are also on my list of wishes for musicals but I think they will be done here at some time.
I get to see a production of "Urinetown" next Saturday.

I would like to see a production of John Webster's Jacobean Tragedy,THE WHITE DEVIL. I would also like to see a first-class production of THE ROYAL HUNT OF THE SUN by Peter Shaffer. And would also love to see a production of a play that Mr. Shaffer wrote that was done in at the National in the mid-nineties with Judi Dench and Michael Pennington called THE GIFT OF THE GORGON. I think it is thus far the only major production of the play. But it is the best play that I've read in the last dozen or so years.

Good morning, all! As Rodgers and Hart put it:

And I believe there's a Kern song in OH, BOY! about May 1 being Moving Day, a curious custom from earlier Manhattan apartment legislation.

I would love to see the film of PORGY AND BESS; I remember a Life Magazine photo spread and I had the soundtrack recording; since I'm not a fan of the Glyndebourne production on commercial release with its fraudulent Porgy-gets-up-and-walks-out -the-door ending (how did they allow Trevor Nunn to pull that?), it's time to offer an alternative. I've seen both the Met and City Opera productions, and I want to see the film. Perhaps now that Leonore and Ira Gershwin are no longer living, the new executive powers wil reconsider its being released.

The Bees Gees did write a quite lovely song "First Of May" IMHO one of the few times that the lyrics have ever been any good.

Just finished watching "Whale Rider". Highly recommended.

I'd really, really like to see Anyone Can Whistle on-stage. The OCR is, to say the least, interesting, and has some of my favorite individual Sondheim songs ("Anyone Can Whistle" and "There Won't be Trumpets").

Like every other horror junkie, I'd love to see the now-lost London After Midnight with Lon Chaney, Sr.

But if we're only dealing with what's actually possible, I'd have to say, The Seven Minutes, Russ Meyer's follow-up to Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Have I mentioned that Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is one of my all-time favorite movies? Well, if I haven't, I am now.

I saw Getting Away With Murder on Broadway - it was one of the absolute worst shows I've ever seen - both in the writing and the directing. The cast was game, but that was about it. Still, I'm glad I saw it.

I've never seen ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, SATURDAY NIGHT, or MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. I could kick myself black and blue for not booking a flight to Washington DC to see it as part of the Sondheim Festival, but I mistakenly thought all the performances were sold out, and I have been dispondent ever since upon learning that there were tickets to be had.

I did see PORGY AND BESS as a kid, but obviously haven't seen it in many decades and would love to see it now as an adult. I know I did rush right out and bought that soundtrack album as soon as I got out of the theater. Have always loved that version of the score as it makes it more "people friendly" and doesn't omit any of my favorite parts of the score.

I'm sure the Gershwin estate has been begged and prodded about this over the years, but I don't hold out much hope in their changing their minds. I Would LOVE to be proven wrong.

I got to NYC about 5 minutes after Follies closed, and have been depressed about it ever since. So that would be my choice.

Re: Royal Hunt of the Sun. I just sold the DVD (one of the very first I ever bought years and years ago) of the film on eBay for an astounding sum. I had no idea it was such a sought-after item. Unfortunately, the print the DVD was made from is really horrid--I'm guessing the film was massively cut sometime after its opening, because there are completely inexplicable edits throughout. The DVD was released by the film's producer, Phillip Yordan. You'd think he would have an uncut print, wouldn't you? Maybe not.

Oh! yes! I did see Mack and Mabel as a kid, when it was in LA - I still remember what fun it was, and I STILL remember Bernadette singing Time Heals Everything! Thanks for the lovely memory.

Morning all!

I'm sorry I have been E & T. Not my choice. Of all times, my computer is really messing up. I’ve got/had a virus and couldn't make the pop up ads stop. I swear that for every one I closed, ten more came up.

The McAfee software I have couldn’t seem to do the trick of fixing the problem. I spoke with a computer guy at work and he said to use Norton. It’s better. I didn’t want to spend that kind of money right now but I don't want to off the net.

I bought Norton and installed it last night. I finely managed to make it to my e-mail account and sent Jane a quick message to tell her and all of you what was going on. I also warned her that if any of you got an e-mail from me in the past two days, please delete it. It won't be from me.

I had the Norton do a scan last night so (hopefully) everything is ok now. The net is still acting a little odd and I still get some pop ups.

I'm worried that someone may have my credit card info and passwords now. I've been flying around to all the sites I use and changing my passwords as fast as I can.

Sigh. Such is life.

Enough of my troubles.

I still have my ROYAL HUNT OF THE SUN DVD but I have to admit I've never made it all the way through it. It's a very poorly directed, ponderous production, but one of these days, I'll screw up my courage and try it again.

BTW, I hate those blue letterbox bars used on this DVD. Black has never been a problem for me, but the blue I find very distracting. It IS a miserable print of the film used for this transfer, too.
