And when should I expect my Kindle to arrive?

Ah, if I won the lottery, what a great pleasure it would be to provide every DR with a Kindle AND an HDTV!  :)

While walking around last, we stopped into Takashimaya.  On the ground floor, the had tables set up with various "gift ideas" of various types and in different price ranges.  This one particular item caught my eye:

Inside the jar, besides the pieces of a broken piggy bank is a tube of super glue.  And each puzzle/jar is unique!  ;)

It's "made" by a company called ATYPYK which makes some other "interesting" and fun items.

DR Michael Shayne, since I saw the original Broadway cast of SWEENEY TODD six times, I can verify that the performance, with intermission, ran generally 2:50; the one exception was the final performance (Sunday matinee) of Lansbury and Cariou, which ran about 3:10 because of the crazy fans, the constant applause and tossed floral tributes.  The curtain calls went on forever.

t's my understanding that the film's shutdown when Depp left the set to be with his hospitalized daughter is the reason for the omission of the ghosts and the Ballad.

You have a better memory of that than I do. I saw the show too with the original cast with the exception of Victor Garber who had left by then and was replaced by Cris Groeendal. The tooth pulling was still in it when I saw it.

With intermission of 20 minutes? that would make 2 1/2 hours (close to the video version)

The Ballad of Sweeney Todd is now an instrumental,

There are two actors listed as the Ballad Ghosts. So maybe they didn't make it to the final cut.

For those looking for the something "very special" for a ladyfriend:

5 pieces of fake Chanel fashion accessories made out of taxidermised rats:
a rat-bra, a rat-slip, a rat-handbag, a rat-handkerchief and a pair of high heel rat-shoes.

An enterprising way to recycle old piggy banks. Do you think they start with whole piggy banks and break them?

I enjoyed the final two parts of "Tin Man",  although I felt there was a decent 2 1/2-hour movie that could have been edited from those 4 hours or so of footage (accounting for commercials).

Hated the conclusion!  Sci-Fi just DUMPED the ending into a promo for another show.  Did Mr. Glitch ever get reunited with his brain?  Was fertility restored to the O.Z.?   Was "Tin Man" going to hook up with anyone and live happily ever after?

And why in hell was younger sister D.G. the princess royal (i.e. Heir to the throne) when there was older sister Aspidistra? (I know it's Askedelia, or something like that, but I always think of her as Aspidistra).

Oh, well.

Yes, he wrote it, with the lyrics by Adrienne Anderson.

I'm really not sure.  Maybe they received a whole shipment of piggy banks that got damaged in shipment, then made lemonade out of lemons.  Who knows?  In any case, it's a gag gift that actually made me think if it really was a gag gift.  I also got a giggle from "A SAFE IDEA BY ATYPYK" "button" on the label, then the fine print "NOT FOR CHILDREN" to the side.

That piggy bank would be a fun idea for a gift exchange game for a church group in a couple of weeks. Too bad I have to go to a meeting that day and miss the party.

Was fertility restored to the O.Z.?

At the very end when the eclipse is over, don't we see the beginning of a greening of the landscape?

der Brucer

My main complaint was that the extensive use of a  low-light grey-tone palette was depressing and hard on the eyes - I kept squinting thinking there was more to see than was there.

ASK BK

I know that you own  prints of several movies and I was looking through ebay and was surprised to see 1473 items listed. One that caught my eye was a print of South Pacific

The seller is claming the following: Extremely Rare Full 171 Minute Version in Stunning Fuji Color
This is the roadshow length.

Wouldn't it be unlikely that a 16mm print of the roadshow version would have been struck especially when the film was trimmed during the roadshow engagement. I always believed that 16mm prints shortly after the film left the theaters.

Also was there FUJI stock back then?

I am sure that if this print is as good as he claims couldn't they have used this to restore the film for the DVD release? It doesn't look like he is one of those collectors that has the last remaining print of a movie that he keeps to himself.

What are your thoughts?

I'd have to look at the listing.  But, yes, it's conceivable a 16mm print could have been struck back then, for Armed Forces or the military or for one of the film's participants.  Or, more likely, someone might have made a reduction print off another print, which means the quality would be not great.  Not sure when Fuji came into existance (one of my Nudie prints is on Fuji stock), but it's occasionally prone to fading (although my Nudie print is not faded at all, but another Nudie print only has about seventy percent of its color and is also on Fuji).

But no, whatever this is, it could not have been used for the DVD - if you think there's a huge difference when the color goes wonky, the 16mm shift in difference from the 65mm elements would be horrendous and unwatchable.  That said, Fox, had they wanted to spend the time and money, could have fixed the color in those sections.

If you provide a link, I'll check out the ad - is the print in scope?

Before my very eyes, it turned pink!

It turned other colors, too, all the while playing lovely digital music.

My first quesition for ASK BK day:  What television pilot that you know of had the most changes (casting and otherwise) made before it went to air?

Well, from personal experience, Tabitha - the entire cast changed, script, director and just about everything else.
