LA TIMES

Quote
Old Mike, new Christine
By Mike Penner, Times Staff Writer
April 26, 2007
...
Today I leave for a few weeks' vacation, and when I return, I will come back in yet another incarnation.

As Christine.

I am a transsexual sportswriter. It has taken more than 40 years, a million tears and hundreds of hours of soul-wrenching therapy for me to work up the courage to type those words. I realize many readers and colleagues and friends will be shocked to read them.

That's OK. I understand that I am not the only one in transition as I move from Mike to Christine. Everyone who knows me and my work will be transitioning as well. That will take time. And that's all right. To borrow a piece of well-worn sports parlance, we will take it one day at a time.
...

OK - Will New Christine be welcome in the Ladies' Locker Room?

In my DVD player:  a 2-DVD set that I got from the library, "Visions of Germany:  Along the Rhine and Bavaria."  They flew over parts of Germany and filmed the flight, looking down over the incredibly beautiful countryside.  There is also narration about the areas that they flew over.  My mom is from the Bavarian area of Germany and loves these kinds of DVDs. :)

Hi all.  Just a short post.  It's now 4:45 AM and I am home after seeing Mom safely in her ICU room. It fair broke my heart to leave her.

The dogs were very happy to see me as this was the first time they were outside after dark.

I'm going to lay down and try to get some sleep so I can get back up and go back to the hospital ASAP.

Thank all again for your vibes and good thoughts.  I have a feeling this time, I'm going to need them like I never have before.

'Monster Mash' Singer Bobby 'Boris' Pickett Dies at 69

Quote
 —  He does the "Monster Mash" no more.

NEW YORK

Bobby "Boris" Pickett, whose dead-on Boris Karloff impression propelled the Halloween anthem to the top of the charts in 1962, making him one of pop music's most enduring one-hit wonders, has died of leukemia. He was 69.

Pickett, dubbed "The Guy Lombardo of Halloween," died Wednesday night at the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital, said his longtime manager, Stuart Hersh. His daughter, Nancy, and his sister, Lynda, were at Pickett's bedside.

"Monster Mash" hit the Billboard chart three times: when it debuted in 1962, reaching No. 1 the week before Halloween; again in August 1970, and for a third time in May 1973. The resurrections were appropriate for a song where Pickett gravely intoned the forever-stuck-in-your-head chorus: "He did the monster mash. ... It was a graveyard smash."

I know this is a family site.

But I also know there are plenty of dog lovers on the list, so with that in mind, I submit: Hotdoll: The Sex Doll for Dogs

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/hotdoll-the-sex-doll-for-dogs-253334.php

From the site: "Are you constantly having to pry your promiscuous pooch off the legs of guests, parents and members of your church? Protect your leg from a hump attack by getting Scruffy a Hotdoll. Yes, it's a sex doll for dogs. It's shaped like a dog and it'll allow your tension-filled pet to go to town as much as his little heart desires, humping away until he passes out in exhaustion, leaving a wispy coil of friction-singed dog-fur smoke wafting into the air."

The questions on the site are very funny. "Is it dishwasher safe"? etc...

From TCB last night:

Quote from: Ben on Yesterday at 02:06:32pm
He has at least one show planned every night that he's here. He arrived late Tuesday evening (too late to see a show) and he saw two shows yesterday. He has one this evening, one tomorrow (Friday), two on Saturday, two on Sunday, one on Monday, one on Tuesday, two on Wednesday and he leaves on Thursday. 12 shows in seven full days in the city!

Isn't Broadway still dark on Mondays?

Not anymore. There are not a lot of shows on Monday night but there are enough that you can see something. Most shows play Tuesday through Sunday but some shows play other schedules.

Phantom, Coram Boy, Deuce and Avenue Q are some of the shows that play on Monday.

Mamma Mia has two days of dark, Monday and Tuesday. There schedule is Wednesday 2 and 8, Thursday and Friday at 8, Saturday at 2 and 8 and Sunday at 2 and 7. An 8 show schedule in 5 days. Lion King also plays Wednesday through Sunday.

Yes, Broadway has changed.
