Was your beer ice cold? And did you go right from the batter to the hot oil? And did you start off with a dry dip of the fish filet in just rice flour? and then the tempura-like batter?

And I do believe Alton Brown has covered fish & chips before.

...And once I got back to the apartment, I went ahead and took care of a couple of things. I finished putting together the new coat rack and TV cart that I had bought at IKEA yesterday. I replaced some light bulbs in the ceiling fixtures. I transferred all the TV stuff from the old cart - which was actually two fruit crates - to the new cart. -Alas, it took me a couple attempts to get all the cables hooked back up properly. I wiped down the kitchen table and the side tables - they were still not cleaned from last night's party. $:-\$ Then loaded the dishwasher up. Etc., etc., etc... And now... I post.

Whew!

Good evening all! Since we are expecting 2-4 inches of snow tonight and 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow, I decided to go see "The Queen" tonight. I'm glad I did. I thought it was a very good movie and Helen Mirran was fantastic

The news just said we will get 7-8 inches of snow and we are supposed to stay home tomorrow. At least it's going to be in the 20s instead of below zero temps. I can handle that

DR Jrand - As for the funniest line from last night's concert... Well, it was more of a bit. At the end of "Poor Wand'ring One", there is that section where the voice and flute are in duet. And then there's a "question and answer" section. First the flute "questioned", then she "answered". Then the flute questioned again... "Oh, no you didn't".... Then after the third question, she took the flute away from the player. Simple, but effective.

Turkey thighs work wonderfully when "teriyaki'd". You can just buy a bottle of sauce, of just mix up your own concoction with soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ginger, red pepper flake, scallions and garlic. Just baste, baked, and the broil to crisp the skin.

However, if you're adept with a boning knife, turkey thighs are great for stuffing or "roulading".

Or just cut the meat off the bone into bite-size pieces and stir-fry with your favorite veggies.

Boston was cold...people there said it was 6 degrees out but it really didn't seem that cold to me. Maybe it's because I only have one space heater in my house and I'm used to the cold, but I found the two homes I stayed in stifling and slept with the window open.

Speaking of chilly, although the Boston Globe did a really nice piece about our film, their critic gave it an unfavorable review, based on one beef he had with it. Still, the screening at the Boston Museum of Art went very well...almost sold out. After opening the Human Rights Watch film festival, it will start a week-long run at the museum.

NPR in Boston did a story on our film and while it was being recorded and Peter was being interviewed, the "Car Talk" guys were in the next studio, taping their show. We wished we could have met them!

I began my evening of viewing with Thursday night's SUPERNATURAL. An episode that contained bits of BURNT OFFERINGS, THE OTHER, and THE INNOCENTS. I enjoyed it.

Then, because we had been talking foreign films today, I looked on my to-watch shelf and saw Ingmar Bergman's WILD STRAWBERRIES, one of my favorite films of his and watched all but the last 15 minutes.

The Criterion disc is, with two places where there seemed to be stripes on the negative, the transfer looked pristine, and that gorgeous cinematography just sparkled.

Best friend John came over to watch TERMINATOR 2 on Blu-ray. I hadn't watched it in high definition either, so I was hoping it would be a sterling transfer to show off the system. Sad to say, it was not a reference quality disc. Yes, there were moments where images seemed three dimensional, but much of it had the flatter look of some of the other Blu-rays that haven't excelled in the video department.
