The Democrats are now the majority in the Senate, too!

Just got a jump on the season and saw the Radio City Christmas Show this evening.  Still loads of fun as unusual, but interestingly, now that I've seen the Mary Poppins sets do their thing, the sets at Radio City no longer fill me with awe as they have in earlier years.

That must be why the cats were racing around the apartment with excitement!

My husband usually hides in the computer room on election night as i spemnd my evening switching from news station to news station yelling at the TV and making  disparaging generalizations about  the inyelligence of the voting public.... this year I turned onthe news at 10"00  watched fre anbout 15 minutes very quietly and then turned the set off.

Vixdad was concerned... had I finally succumbed to the stroke he's been warning me about for years?

Nope... I was just content.... a bit suprised and perplexed that our Democrartic Comptroller who  just got caught having state employees chauffering his seriously ill wife around  on the taxpayer's dime was  returned to office by an overwhelming majority... but overall quite content

and todays news of Rumsfeld's retirement was the icing on the cake.

I can no longer hear the song "I Enjoy Being a Girl" without envisioning it being sung by our very own JoseSPiano

Discussion about last night's VERONICA MARS.

.
.
.

VERONICA MARS had the most entertaining episode of the season thus far in my estimation. Veronica was trying to prove her innocence after being accused of plagerizing a term paper, and her investigation led into all kinds of fascinating revelations.  The Keith storyline was also full of surprises.

This is a GREAT show!

In fact, in answer to DR MBarnum's earlier question, it isn't a film, of course, but this is the show that I started watching blind after its first season was over (during a series of CBS summer reruns), and now it's one of my absolute favorite shows.

I agree. I think this was a really good episode.  Were you in total shock when keith had his accident. I was totally stunned.

I believe i started watching it the summer after it first aired (season one). CTV in canada has the rights and showed it then. And i fell in love immediately. They have not shown it since, so least year my sis had to tape it for me. But luckily this year i get all the cw shows.

RE: last night's show.  I loved veronica's search for who framed her.  THe most interesting part was the end when she confronted the TA. What is up with him? He is slightly creepy. Perhaps he was trying to help her, maybe he is trying to solve the rape case. Or maybe he is the rapist.

Of course getting to the real answer always seems to take so many turns. That poor guy who works at the hotel was out of luck when veronica screwed with him (putting the stuff in the trunk).  And that radio guy/gambling guy mercer seems to be our first mis-direction towards the rapist.

Can't wait for next week.

re: my favorite HEROES:

I like the policeman best & then the politician’s brother.  I wasn’t too keen on Hiro at first, each week I enjoy him more, moving him into third place.

My favorites are Hiro, Peter (politician's brother), and the policeman.

The cheerleader is okay. I don't really care for niki. And i'm not crazy about the politician.

I do like the newest hero a lot (don't want to say the name in case anyone hasn't watched yet).

I like the indian guy too. ANd am creeped out by the cheerleader's "father".

I have been watching DVD's inflicted....I mean....sent to me by DRMBARNUM.  Actually I am enjoying them all.

First up was THE QUIET DUEL, a Kurasawa film starring Toshiro Mifune as a young doctor who is infected with syphillis when he takes off his gloves while operating on a soldier during WWII.  The rest of his life is in shambles when he calls off his six year engagement and can't really tell anyone what's wrong.  Mifune's final speech is heartbreaking.

Then WHIRLWIND - another Mifune film, but he is in a supporting role, and many years older....but there are lots of samaria soldiers and a great tornado.

Then without subtitles - LOS AMORES DE MARIETA or THE ROARING TWENTIES....not sure exactly what is going on, lots of war scenes, lots of songs and dances and some comedy.  And Ms Elvira Quintana, the tragic young actress who does a very nice job here in a comic-singing role.  She would die at 33 as a result of silicone injections she had at the beginning of her film career to make herself more voluptuous.  Stardom and death followed.

I am watching STRIKE OF THE JAGUMA right now...lots of samarai and guys in white gorilla suits and demons...AND subtitles.

Oh I like the Cheerleader's father - Mr Jack Coleman aka Steven Carrington #2.

My guess from reading HHW and my own feelings is that Niki is the least popular "hero."

Home and relaxing after a very long day and a quite successful grantmaker panel program.  We had about 30 people in the audience and enough food leftover for me to bring some home and leave some for my coworkers to enjoy tomorrow.  I'm now staying up late to watch The Barber of Seville on Letterman, which I can do because I don't have to set my alarm tonight.  No work for me until noon next Tuesday  ;D

Ditto.  My faves are in the same order and I'm totally on the fence about Niki.  Although that whole family intrigues me- especially after the last episode.

I agree with you. Niki became more interesting once we found out about the rest of the family. Still, she's in last place in terms of my interest in her character.

BONES had a very entertaining episode tonight as Booth and Brennan investigate two bodies found outside Las Vegas. This leads into the world of underground fight clubs. Having Booth as the boxer and Temperance as his chippy was lots of fun.

LOST had a magnificent mid-season finale that will make the next two months a living hell waiting for the resolution.

I have to say that I got VERY sick and tired of the promos for Taye Diggs' new show DAY BREAK.

Um, ABC! It's called OVERKILL, and it has basically turned me off of the show before it even starts.

ASK BK ?

I see that the York Theater is doing the revival of Busker Alley directed by your pal Tony Walton and starring Jim Dale. Any chance you might record it? (You've already  recorded the title song elsewhere.)

Nope, JAY Records is doing it.  And let them.

THE NINE did have a wonderful episode tonight, too, as some major turning points in people's lives occurred, and we got to see a nice slice of action from the second hour of the hostage crisis. I really like the show, but I read that tonight's rating is going to be do-or-die for the show.

ABC is expecting LOST's finale to ring up a BIG rating, and if THE NINE doesn't make a move upward in the ratings, ABC is probably going to pull the plug.

Every year we put together a Thanksgiving basket and a Christams basket for a local church.  It is fun planning and buying and decorating it.

Question for Ask BK Day -  I'm confused by the actions of some other theater-related record labels to delay releases of CD's.  Surely there is some business reason for doing so, but I can't figure it out - unless maybe the delay creates some sort of demand for the CD that results in extra sales once the CD is finally released? Otherwise, why does it take so long for these otehr labels?  Do you have any thoughts on this?
