My Question of the day:

What DVD have your purchased or recieved this year, blind...a movie or tv show you were totally unfamiliar with...that, after watching it, became one of your favorites.

For me the 500 hands down winner would be "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T"

Do you hear that? It's the sound of the telephone not ringing.

Do you mean that the voices of Laura Bush and Bill Clinton won't be on my answering machine when I get home?  They were yesterday!

Advice - (which I seldom seek)

We own the THX Digitally Mastered DVD version of the King and I.

Will the just released version look any different?

Is the second disk of extras worth the money?

der Brucer

I plan on buying the new Carousel and DRUM.

I'm taking a pass on South Pacific- hate loathe those  colored filters.

It depends on how much you care about image quality.  The new DVD is spectacular-looking and derived from the original 55mm negative, which all earlier transfers were not.  The extras are nice, too, but I don't really care about them.  But the image and sound are major improvements.

No, it was drowned out by the doorbell not chiming :)

Ginny - the only voice we got on our answering machine was Eliot Spitzer.

Thanx.

I generally enjoy the extras and they are often sneaky ways of getting the Grandlads to learn a bit about the process of film-making.

Really?  Who did he say was trying to get a message to you?

Oh...no....wait.

You said "Edwards".....not "Edward"....John Edwards the politico, not John Edward who talks to the dead.

Never mind.

I did get a call from Bill Clinton, and later Robert Redford.

I wouldn't tell them how I voted, but I'm certain both of them would have been ecstatic.

Despite all those reassurances that DR MattH has plenty to keep him occupied IF those long-awaited, fretted-over DVDs don't arrive today, I am almost certain he will feel a tad "bereft"....

HHW influence hits the LA TIMES

Quote
A soul to save
"Sister Act" could well be a hit, but let's pray for more personality.
By Charles McNulty
Times Staff Writer

November 6, 2006

Hold off on the novenas for "Sister Act: The Musical." The show, which opened Friday at the Pasadena Playhouse, has Broadway blockbuster written all over it. But it's going to need a little divine intervention if it's to become more than just another generically manufactured hit.
 ...
The problem in a nutshell is this: "Sister Act: The Musical" can't figure out if it wants to be slightly louche like "Hairspray" or crowd-pleasing like "Beauty and the Beast." Original instincts keep getting diverted down clichéd pathways: Remedial plot points interrupt the high jinks as though we were a bunch of simpletons, and an energetic R&B score increasingly gives way to schmaltzy tunes that could elicit groans from even the most pickled piano bar regulars.

I mean, really...using louche in a sentence!

Even though the relatively critical tone of the review belies bk's pessimism, he will surely be vindicated when the review gets quoted as:

"Sister Act: The Musical." ... has Broadway blockbuster written all over it.

I just bought a Richard Bach book that also features some comments by Leslie Parrish-Bach....it's titled RUNNING FROM SAFETY.

Does MR BK have this book?

Wow!  That would be a lot of moving around the cameras...to go from the house to the malt shop and then back to the house and then back to the malt shop!!!

WOW!  Thanks for the info MR BK.

I received a package from DR MBARNUM with lots of nice things inside....and I shall be watching them tonight!

Hoot hoot.....

And I have to agree with the notes for today that Mr Hermes Pan's work in DRUM was a weak link.  Did they do that hoe-down on Broadway during CHOP SUEY....I don't think Carol Haney or Gene Kelly would do that.

Two good news items:

Donald Rumsfeld has announced he will resign.

The Democrats have taken the Senate seat in Montana  leaving only the Virgnia Senate seat in doubt (with a Democrat leading)...and "control" of the Senate with it.

It'll be a while. VA will be getting a recount, and the law says a recount can't start until after election certification , which is late (28/29) November! This leaves three or more weeks for the GOP legal-minions to mount challenges in other states.

The Fat Lady has not even entered the theatre!

The way the sets are built for three cameras, it's constant side-to-side movement for the cameras, with walls swinging to open the new set.  It's very clever, actually.

Have been doing CD-related stuff all morning and must now go pick up the CDs to get to Alice and Emily.

How interesting.  Living in Indiana...well not many TV shows are filmed here...if any!  8)
