Since so many musicals are based on films these days---even musical films!---it seems like "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T" would be a perfect candidate.

Let's put on a show!

DR RODSZINSKI - due to licensing problems or money arguments, the music on ALL the DR PHIBES vhs/DVD releases is different than the theatrical release.

Imagine the final image of the film being enacted while "Over the Rainbow" plays in the background.....I think that was the song.

Checking IMDB - that MAY have been corrected by now.  :P

On my old VHS copy, "Over the Rainbow" IS played at the end. And you get a bunch of other standards throughout ("One For My Baby, and One More For the Road").  So I guess I will hold onto that ol' VHS for awhile.

PS I really like the organ song Doc Phibes is playing at the opening  of the movie and a few times throughout.

Are you telling me they can't just use those lyrics?

The whole Disney story seems like an attempt to dramatize the very old joke, reprinted here only for educational purposes.  (Or did this joke already appear here?)

QUESTIONABLE ADULT HUMOR AHEAD - WARNING

Attorney:  So Mr. Mouse, you say you want to divorce Mrs. Mouse because she's crazy?

Mickey:  I didn't say she was crazy.  I said she was f***ing Goofy.

BK, I do have a question:  how do I get the companion CDs fro the first two Kritzer books?  I only have the one for KRITZERTIME, since I had purchased the first two books from Amazon.com before I joined the site.  Are any still floating around?

I now have my Stapes, so I'd better work!

I don't know if I have any of the pressed CDs left, I'll have to look- but if I don't, I can burn them for you.

NO NO NOVEMBER - that's the new sex farce unofficially inspired by Never on Sunday, only the Madam arbitrarily takes off for a whole month, throwing the village into a state of lethargy.  (What?  And you thought the plot of The Baker's Wife made sense?)

"The picture was badly cut in fear and anguish of the reappraisal after it was made, even if it was evident to those knowledgeable but inartistic heads of studio that it might have been an artistic triumph rather than a financial one. But in an attempt to make it one, they cut 11 whole musical numbers and re-shot for one whole week. I have never had any such part before, never have since, and probably never will again....

If you mentioned it, people would laugh. And if you were connected with it, you might cough embarrassedly. At any rate, it was a big failure, although it did well and got marvelous reviews in Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, and London. If it had been a success, with my prominent part in the title role, it would have changed my life. The general public thinks of a break as being an opportunity, no. A break is an opportunity that pays off."

Hans Conreid on THE 5,000 FINGERS OF DR. T, in an interview with Leonard Maltin in "The Real Stars," 1973.

Not to be pedantic (OK, so I'm about to be pedantic), but since Glenn Slater is a good friend, let's spell his name right - that's Glenn with two n's, not Glen with only one, 'cause Glen with only one write Doctor T

I began my afternoon with a CSI: NY episode from the DVD. This was the one from season 2 where a dancer who just won an $18 million lotto was murdered. Also, a tram conductor lost his life in the episode. A third case involved the death of a fishman by swordfish.

Never a dull case in NYC!

VERONICA MARS solved the case of a casino robbery on the show last night. Again, the cases for her this year seem simplier than in the past two seasons. I really couldn't summon up much sympathy for Wallace cribbing exams and answers because he wanted to party with his friends. His character has been wasted this year. Don't really know why they didn't write him out of the show completely.

Next came LAW & ORDER: CI. Liza Minnelli gave a touching and subdued performance as the mother of a slain child actress (based on you-knpw-who). Matt McGrath also gave a memorable performance in this episode.

Not exactly sure I found the search for Michael J. Fox's remains very amusing or entertaining on BOSTON LEGAL, but the other stories certainly held my attention.

And why have they not made CHristian Clemenson (Jerry "Hands" Espenson) a permanent member of the cast? If he has to be defended every other week by Alan Shore anyway, just add him to the cast.

BK - Did you meet Glenn Slater last night?

I've often felt that the revue he wrote with Stephen Weiner called NEWYORKERS (it was at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2001 right after TIME AND AGAIN, and even IIRC used TIME AND AGAIN's basic set) would make a lovely and even economical CD, and it's only 6 actors.  I'm surprised it was never recorded.

Yesterday's mail (No - not yesterday's male) brought a copy of "Mouse Tracks - the Story of Walt Disney Records"  I'm sure it will be informative and enjoyable reading.

Included in the acknowledgements in the book is the name of a Frenchman known to us all at HHW.

The generous and well-informed François - sometime HHW resident expert in things "Mouse".

From memory my first Disney recording is "Wringle Wrangle" from "Westward Ho The Wagons".

Do you discuss how praiseworthy was Patrice Munsel in the 1953 Melba?

You know Larry and Nellie have something in common - they both have eponymous desserts:
