Found some fun $1 CDs at WALGREEN'S this morning...vintage radion shows...they had Fibber McGee and Molly, The Great Gildersleeve, Michael Shayne Private Detective, and a sci-fi one called Dimension X, which I have never heard of, along with a few other interesting titles....for $ 1 you can't go wrong!

The Grandlads had fun - and their parents enjoyed the brief respite.

For us Sexagenarians, the film brought back fond memories of a wasted pre-teenhood spent with friends gathered about a giant 8" B&W TV watching "Wrestling From Rainbow". (The hosts Mom kept a giant pot on the stove for popping corn which we all enjoyed).

Seems some reviewers found the film "juvenile" - what were they expecting, a re-working of "Birth of a Nation"?

Yes, indeedy! DR Ginny and I had a wonderful time. DR Ginny met Miss Julie Freeman, daughter of my dear friends Alan and Lilianne Freeman, who was working at the concession stand. The movie was fun, a different tone from the novel, with lots of plot and character chaqnges. I liked the cast, especially Ms Streep and Mr Stanley Tucci, a lot.

My dad has just stepped in so I will now step out.

I hope everyone going to Tacoma has a wonderful time! Post photos.

Because of overcast skies, it has never heated up the way they predicted, so we've ended up with another atypically cool July day. I enjoyed sitting on the porch and enjoying the breeze and cooler temperatures.

I had to do laundry, of course, so while it was going, I watched the second disc of MARY TYLER MOORE episodes.

Among my favorites were the dinner party with Veal Prince Orloff (described last night), the one where Georgette considers becoming a nun, and the surprise birthday party for Lou Grant that goes haywire. All classic episodes from one of the show's bestg seasons.

Then I finally got around to TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE. Believe it or not, I laughed a good bit and found a lot to like.

I know Matt Stone and Trey Parker are bad boys who enjoy pushing the profanity and sexuality envelopes with their cartoons (and now puppet shows), but for me that was the weakest aspect of the film, and a little went a long way. Much better were the satirical jabs against some earnest liberal actors, the Ben Affleck-inspired slam against PEARL HARBOR in song, and the over the top gore and carnage with the puppets. I found the puppet work quite hilarious and mediocrely on-purpose/well done enough to get involved in the facial expressions of the characters (especially the male puppets) and all the elaborate sets and effects pretty mind-blowing.

I doubt I'd ever want to see it again, but I had a much better time with it than I did with THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN last night.

I started LOVESPRING INTERNATIONAL, last Monday's episode with Eric McCormack playing a straight character but with the same physical tics and body language as Will Truman. However, as I wanted to go ahead and get on the internet, I put the rest of it on hold until the get back to the TV set later this evening.
