"Winston tastes good like a [clap] [clap} cigarette should!!"

No, DR Vixmom:

"Winston tastes good AS a [clap][clap] cigarette should."

(Or were those only the print ads after all the grammatical hullabaloo?)

Sorry about your friend, DR Rodzinski.

Congrats on the new job, DR Kerry.

Hope all went well today -- in other words, continued health vibes -- DR Elmore.

Well then of course I got a solo line at the end and added my own couplet:

Plenty of room to swing a rope.
Plenty of sex and plenty of dope!

And then did you get into a production of BRIGADOON and sing:

"Jeannie's shacking up! Jeannie's putting out!"

Thanks, DR JRand. I remember now that Circle in the Square IS the theater it's going into. I remember reading an article somewhere that said they're hoping they'll get spillover from WICKED patrons who don't get cancellations.

Hmmm.. The advance is already pretty good.  I don't think that it will had to "depend" on any spillover.  I tried to get a ticket to the show when I was up in NYC, and had no luck.  And I know a few of cast and creative team.

I really hope the show continues it's take off.

Back from my lovely lunch with dear reader Pogue, and from picking up my auction items.  The Great Race painting is really quite nice, although its matte (which says The Great Race) will have to be cleaned up, and a new and better frame will have to be chosen.

I haven't looked at the Benny stuff carefully, but some of it looks really fun.  I read the beginning of what is a very randy poem to Giselle McKenzie - probably not printable on a family site.

Well, August is traditionally a very slow time for shows, so I'm sure more discount offers will be popping as it gets closer to your visit.

Of course, August will be post-Tonys so anything could happen.

And then did you get into a production of BRIGADOON and sing:

"Jeannie's shacking up! Jeannie's putting out!"

And when I did BRIGABOONDOON in high school, during The Chase, if you listened very carefully, you would have heard (at select matinees)...

"Harry Beats  ____"

;D

And then there was the time when we did MY FAIR LADY, and the painting crew had "hidden" words in the spines of the books they had painted onto the library backdrop.  One letter per spine.  After the first run-through, they were asked to repaint the books.  I guess they were not that "hidden".

Ah, those good ole Catholic School Days!

No we didn't do that to BRIGADOON - DRS JOSE & KERRY, but only because we didn't think of it.

DRJOSE - from the TV commercials I am seeing for MAMMA MIA! it seems that at the end everyone in the audience is standing up and singing all the songs.  Is that right?  Does the cast want us to join in?  What is the deal with this audience participation stuff?  Do we HAVE to do it?  I don't know what to do.

A randy poem to Gisele?  Of course it must be reproduced here!  Written by Mr. Jack Benny?  Did he send it?  LOL

Let's just say that if you want to dust off that spandex jump suit and white shoes and gold chains, now would be a good time to do so!

In fact, in come cities, they will run a promotion where if you come in "costume" you get some sort of goody-bag (restaurant coupons, MAMMA MIA! merchandise, etc.).  I don't think they're doing that here at Clowes.

Something to keep in mind for the "Women of HHW Day Out in NYC" this October.  From today's NY Times' Dining & Wine section.

Quote
Midtown Pacifier: Tea and Scones

Sheltered from the bustle of Midtown on the mezzanine of the City Club Hotel, 55 West 44th Street, is a quiet escape: a complete tea service. Tracy Stern, who runs what she calls Salon Tea as a concession, offers six themed tea blends. Among them, the Artist is a Ceylon tea, and the Society Hostess is a decaffeinated vanilla-scented China black. The Romantic, a green tea with jasmine, suited me fine. Ms. Stern serves them with a copious assortment of scones, tea sandwiches and pastries prepared by Daniel Boulud's DB Bistro Moderne in the hotel. Tea is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The price is $32, and the serving can be shared; an extra pot of tea is $8. Reservations: (212) 398-1323. Ms. Stern's teas are also sold at the hotel and at www.salonteas.com.

From what I saw of the Benny poems...Jack had a very lewd mind and only one thing on it.  The John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, of his day.  BK, you did not show me The Great Race art...were you that hungry for lunch?

Speaking of cigarette ads, does anyone remember LSMFT and what it meant and what the dirty version of it was?

I loved when the hosts and TV stars did their own commercials, somehow it wasn't as intrusive a break into the programming...more like a gentle diversion...

Speaking of commercials, did Cal Worthington finally die?  I haven't seen him on local TV here for years.  Of course, I watch very little local TV anymore.

Well then of course I got a solo line at the end and added my own couplet:

Plenty of room to swing a rope.
Plenty of sex and plenty of dope!

Clearly a child of the sixties!

I'm only here for a moment; I'm off to dinner with Russell Warner and my friend Betty from the Library of Congress MusicDivision.  Mexican food and yummilicious margaritas!

I had a foot x-rayed this morning to discern the problem in the ball of my right foot and why I'm having pain standing on it.  Monday, April 11, I see the new surgeon about the fissure.  Oy!

I'll tell you the commercial from childhood I loathed:  that rude twit Katy Winters who went about telling boyfriends, office workers, and strangers that their pits stank.  Her little "Secret"  was too coy for words.  I hope she's dead.

Broad Ripple is a nice "village-y" part of town with a parking problem, but lots of little shops.  The High School there is the theatre magnet.
Also Frances Farmer lived in an apartment on College Avenue for many years - andher decorating business was located at around 43rd and College after she left WFBM tv.

Actually I am rather miffed with IPS right now. One of my friends was just laid off. He was one of the choir teachers at Broad Ripple. He was one of the few who really worked hard for the kids and now he is going to have to find work somewhere else. It's sad because he is really very talented. They also had to lay off another 20 or so teachers which is going to be very tough for them as some of them are much older and married with kids in college.

Can one of you film history scholars explain something to me:  why was To Be Or Not To Be not a Paramount release?  The two stars and the writer/director were all Paramount contract people, so I'm wondering how they all got releases to do a Korda/UA production, especially in the cases of Lombard and Lubitsch.  And I could have sworn I saw TBONTB with a Paramount logo when I was a teenager, but maybe I'm imagining things.

Oops, forgot to show you the art - it was right there by the table.  I'll take a photo of it soon.

Just had a nice call from Miss Tammy Minoff, one of my book guinea pigs.  She professed to love it, and, in fact, thinks it's her favorite out of all my tomes.  Very nice to hear.  I'll be discussing it with her at length tomorrow lunch.

The actress in the Anacin "please, mother" commercial is Miss Allyn Ann McClerie who also played the singer/entertainer in CALAMITY JANE.

I’m blurry eyed from trying to set up my new phone.  I couldn’t find anything in the manual on retrieving my voice mail.  A flashing light indicates I have voice mail but it turns out there isn’t a button to retrieve it.  Now I’m going to try programming numbers into the phone.  Somehow I will have to make that the first number to show up.
