Morning.
Today is Wednesday already,,,,
Hope it's happy and stress free for everyone.
-
Good morning!
This cool weather is so encouraging; I wish it could last longer. We'll be back into the 80s by the weekend, but I'm sure loving this as long as we have it. My A/C hasn't flipped on in two days!
-
Happy Day to Birthday Boy DR Ron Pulliam!!!
-
I was wary last night of having a bad night since my arm was aching while I was reading before turning out the light. However, it ended up being the best night of sleep I've had this week. While I was up twice, at neither time did pain become a real issue, so I was very grateful.
-
I have no discs yet today for a work project, but those Fox Blu-rays should arrive soon, and then I'll have plenty. Disney is also sending out four Blu-rays beginning with HERO that form a kung fu quadrilogy, but I don't expect those until next week.
-
I did have time to watch two more LIE TO ME episodes this morning. In the second one, Jennifer Beals makes her first appearance as Tim Roth's ex-wife. It was a very entertaining episode. I liked the first one, too. In it, I noticed that one of my favorite actors, Fredric Lane, has gone back to using the real spelling of his last name - Lehane.
-
I did notice that GLEE is being repeated tonight, but it's the Director's Cut of the pilot with more footage than what originally aired last season. It begins at 8:58 tonight instead of 9 on Fox.
-
Trying to decide which composer to commission to write my own personal theme music. You know - for public appearances.

Wednesday morning greetings! DH Richard is off to Lima for a ministerial association meeting and I'm about to call my Mom to make arrangements for our shopping trip. It's a bee-yoo-tee-ful day in SW Ohio!
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR Ron Pulliam!
-
DR DAW, UmbrellaToday tells me in big letters that I need an umbrella today. This surprises me. Greatly.
-
DR MattH i actually watched GLEE yesterday and really liked it. I will definitely be watching in 2 weeks when it starts (tonight is the pilot that was on in May i believe).
-
DR Jane, i watched part of the BB video with your cousin. Wow, your cousin is the voice of BIG BROTHER (who talks in the house).
IT's funny that you have a cousin who is an executive producer on the show but you do not watch. I would love to have someone i knew on the show. Although i'm not sure how much they are allowed to tell. But i'd love to know what really goes on in the diary room sessions. I believe they try to influence the game because people go in thinking one thing. And then they go out gunning in a new direction.
I'm sure they are not supposed to say what they do. But they are obviously influencing the houseguests!
-
Hello, all! I am at Toyland. I had lots of packages to pick up at the Post Office and - nice surprise! - a nice check for one of my jobs last month.
I've been thinking about yesterday's orchestra sessions: the conductor beat tine to the music as though he were beating his way through the jungle bush with a machete. What do you do when someone you are quite fond of isn't good enough for the position he wants? How do you gracefully remove himn? Howe do you suggest other job positions he might be better qualified for? How do you fire someone you like and wish well?
-
Happy Birthday DR RonP!!!!
-
I watched a very interesting movie from the library last night. CHANGELING with angelina jolie. Very good movie!
Tomorrow i am gonna watch GREY GARDENS!
-
Trying to decide which composer to commission to write my own personal theme music. You know - for public appearances.
It's too bad that Carl Stallings is no longer with us. Or Spike Jones.

I guess I'll tidy up some computer matters and then head downstairs to see if the UPS man has paid a visit. Then I must start thinking about what's for lunch.

You gave me my first big laugh of the day. Thank you, DR Elmore.

And now I'm REALLY going!
;D
-
DR elmore3003 - that's a tough one. Hard as it would be to do, have you considered sitting down with him and having an honest conversation about your concerns? I'm sure he doesn't want to hear it, but in the long run you'd be doing the both of you a favor.

Happy Birthday to DR RLP.

DR FJL - my ARSENIC & OLD LACE program with Boris on the cover is from the week of April 20, 1942. I did not check the one with Hull and Von Stroheim on the cover, but it must be from later in the run after Karloff left, or was on vacation.

The walkway from my front porch to my driveway was badly in need of repair (or more precisely, to be installed correctly). So they started at 7 this morning with the jackhammer. I am glad to have the job done but would have preferred they had done the job before I moved in.
The guy who came who started this morning seemed OK. His crew who joined him, however, must have understudied with Larry, Darryl and their other brother, Darryl. Either that, or the Darlings are joining them for a hootenanny after this is done. If Earnest T. starts throwing rocks through my windows, however, I'm complaining to the management!
So far the jackhammer broke through a pipe to the front flower bed. I guess it was a good thing I was home to turn the water off.
Of all the days to quit smoking.. to quit drinking... to quit heroin!!!! Oy!

Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up because two workers were having an existential discussion outside my bedroom window - no noise at all, just a conversation that could have taken place, you know, in front of the house.

Had an e-mail from former dear reader Hisaka, who has forgotten her password (no way to retrieve it now), so she asked me to post the following. I told her to re-register and get her Japanese butt cheeks back where she belongs.
Is it too late to say "Thank you" to DRs and bk who gave me warm birthday wishes on my birthday?I had a wonderful birthday dinner with friends at a Japanese restaurant in Hollywood. My birthday dessert was an Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich - Warm peanut butter-chocolate chip cookies, dulce de leche ice cream, caramel & chocolate sauces, candied walnuts. I know it's not like a Japanese dessert, rather a typical American one.:) I just wanted to share it with all of you. And Happy Birthday, DR Ron Pulliam!

I'm curious if there are any new tv shows that people here will be watching.
I don't know for myself yet (since i like to read about the shows first).
I do know that I will be watching GLEE.
And I've seen like 1000 promos for THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and will try that (i've read the books).
We used to get TV Guide here that had really good descriptions of all the new shows. I think EW might still do that. And i guess my local TV TIMES will do something maybe next saturday. I thought for sure there would be stuff on tvguide online. Maybe i checked too early. :(
-
I think it's the Grand Lodge in Great Wolf.

Probably all of those times you swiped that yellow bracelet at the bar.
Most likely when the kids swiped the bracelet.
-
You probably have the same name as one of his friends, Jennifer. I was friended by someone who was looking for another person with my name.
-
The kids' bracelets aren't "swipable," thank heaven. ;) The food here is unbelievably expensive (and pretty bad, to boot). I will say as wonderful as the waterpark and some amenities are, these are without a doubt the worst beds we've ever experienced in a hotel. Our guess is kids have repeatedly jumped on them, breaking the box springs, so that both beds are completely concave. My back is sore.
-
DR Elmore - in his heart of hearts, the conductor probably already knows he's in over his head.
-
I had a woman "friend" me on Facebook and I had no clew who(m) she was. Born in 1933, didn't recognize her name. Sent her a PM, which she never responded to. Realized later she was one of my new members in my big community choir. Oops--bet she won't be back this fall, LOL.
-
DR Elmore - in his heart of hearts, the conductor probably already knows he's in over his head.
It is my experience as both a player and conductor that conductors resolutely refuse to admit they're in over their heads. ;D
-
DR JMK - library directors, too ;)
-
I emailed DAW a week or two ago after he posted to CASTRECL about Marin Alsop's new recording of MASS. I played under Ms. Alsop years ago (very early in her career, but still post-Bernstein, which you'd think would have counted for something), and I was just lost most of the time. Her conducting style at that time was something akin to stabbing at imaginary butterflies. I had absolutely no clew what she was doing, and my sense from the other orchestra members was I was not alone in that regard. :)

Love the pics from Arsenic and Old Lace!

Don't you like to put them on your fingers?

My Ask BK question: with what seems like the impending release of XXX XXX XX XXX, what was the ownership chain of Phase4? There are some wonderful Enoch Light recordings on that label (and maybe Edmundo Ros, too, now that I think of it), that I'd love to see released.

Elmore, I mentioned this a couple of days ago--don't you have a very funny story about mishaps at some theater party attendance of XXX XXX XX XXX? I can't remember the details, but I seem to recall someone gave the show a wonderful "new" title, a la CLOSE A LITTLE FASTER. :)
-
Probably all of those times you swiped that yellow bracelet at the bar.
Yeah...DR JMK, do you talk with your hands a lot?

Much appreciated, all of you!

Ask BK: Bruce, in the episodes of "Adam 12" that you've watched, was one of those episodes titled "Elegy for a Pig"? I have strong memories of this episode from the early 1970s (71 or 72, I think). It was about the death of a police officer. My strongest memory is of his wife slowly walking up some stairs after being notified of her husband's death. It broke my heart.
-
DR Elmore - in his heart of hearts, the conductor probably already knows he's in over his head.
No, DR Ginny; he's crashed and burned several times before this; he is completely clueless.

Yes, it's there and quite a good episode. They forego the usual opening music, and Jack Webb speaks the titles and then a spoken intro to the show. It's quite effective.
-
Just back from the post office - all orders save for dealers' orders have been shipped.
-
JMK - the Project 3 catalog is quite in disarray - they own some stuff but not other stuff, can find paperwork on some stuff and not others, etc. Much as I love Enoch Light, I leave those albums to Collector's Choice or Varese Vintage.

That is one of my favorite episodes, that the dead officer's little girl at the funeral...just turns me into a puddle of tears.
BK, have you yet to see the episode where Malloy finds out his driver's license is expired and so he has to let Reed do the driving....another of my favorite episodes!

So, Ron, what are you going to do to celebrate your big day?
Well, let's see. I've been to Peet's for coffee and La Farine for a morning bun AND a scone. I put my car in my neighborhood shop for its annual tuneup...and now I'm "maintaining" my CD collection...something that must be done periodically to ensure things don't get so completely out of hand that I can't find a thing. A year or so ago, I began discarding ALL jewelboxes. I place my CDs into protective sleeves and then insert them plus the artwork, tray cards and booklets, into a polyvinyl sleeve. I can store many more CDs on a storage shelf (3X as many, actually) than I could with jewelboxes. I've let quite a few CDs pile up, so my task is to get them into those sleeves and onto shelves.
I'm also trying to stay cool. Despite a cool start to the week, and the promise of a cool weekend, today is going to be warmish/hottish. I can feel the heat in the condo right now and all my fans are on high. I may have to crank up the A/C.
As for entertainment, I'm considering viewing DVDs of "Pickup on South Street" and "Dangerous Crossing." I'm feeling a little noir-ish today...all things considered.

re: the facebook friend request.
DR Laura i don't have a very common name so i doubt he was looking for someone with my name (but maybe). IT was not the person bill six.
I guess my point was why don't these people include a note with their request. At least they could say that they are looking for their friend ...

Sorry, DR Jennifer. I didn't see any post from you related to this. At any rate, I haven't seen any yet. I'll mention anything really good when I do.
-
I'm curious if there are any new tv shows that people here will be watching.
Right now I plan to sample more of GLEE, and also FLASH FORWARD, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, THREE RIVERS, and maybe one of the new comedy shows. Courtney Cox's COUGAR TOWN has gotten good advance buzz.
I will be dropping this season SMALLVILLE and CSI: NY. Iffy are SOUTHLAND and HEROES and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (meaning I'll start their seasons but will drop if things haven't improved).
-
I did get a bunch of review material in today: three Blu-rays from Fox and the rest of Criterion's September releases (both of which are Blu-ray discs which don't come out until much later in the month, so they went to the bottom of the pile).
-
Larry, sorry, must have missed your previous response during our "world travels." I must be confused, obviously--I could have sworn you had posted a really funny anecdote to CASTRECL about XXX XXX XX XXX about the rotating stage going crazy and a bunch of other tsuris and the story ended with one of the theater group ladies being totally confused anyway because she thought the show was called something else. Does anyone else from CASTRECL remember this, or have I gone completely insane? ;)

Before starting on work, I filled up the morning with a succession of WILL & GRACE episodes. These were from season six, and I have to say that being away from the shows for a couple of years have increased their comic value. I found something uproarious in almost every episode. (These were the ones where Jack becomes a student nurse and Grace is home from Cambodia because Leo worked all the time and she never saw him.)
-
When the time came for work, I chose HIGH CRIMES on Blu-ray with Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman. A perfectly fine courtroom thriller, the ending was never much in doubt (having seen Glenn Close's JAGGED EDGE and Jessica Lange's MUSIC BOX years before). Still, I LOVE courtroom mysteries, so I enjoyed myself.

I also watched all of the bonus features (7 featurettes plus a commentary). None of the bonus vignettes were very long.

I had enough time left to scan through today's ATWT and OLTL. Nothing of interest on either show though the boys were in the previews for ATWT tomorrow.
-
I was just informed that Jane, Fred, and Skip have been adopted.
That's Great!
-
Thanks, DR Ginny. I'll let you know! :)
I wasn't sure how far you were from Cincinnati.
About 30 miles.
-
Back from taking my mother shopping at Meijer, where - wonder of wonders - she let me push her in a wheelchair shopping cart. Seems like just last week that I shopped at Meijer with little Robbie riding in the shopping cart.
-
I guess I'll hop off-line now and do some writing. Then, back downstairs for a fun evening of leisure viewing.
WBBL.
-
Well, i'm back from Toyland, and not a sign of George being here to finish the bookcases. I have left messages on his office phone but no one is answering his home phone. I hope he's okay. With my luck, he's off to the Jersey Shore for the Labor Day weekend and I'm left to wander around this clutter for another damned week. Tomorrow the super's grandson returns to Serbia, so once the damned shelves are repaired, I will have to find another laborer to help me put everything back and ship the things to Ohio. Color me very pissed at the moment.
-
Finally caught up with all the postings from the last few days. Didn't realize how far behind I was
-
Whew is it hot today. Cason came over and we got all the big packages out of here and shipped - I actually had no idea how close Gaily/Minsky's was to selling out - I'm down to less than fifty copies so I'll probably take it to sold out status tomorrow or Friday. All that's left to ship are a couple of overseas orders of 15 and 20 and I'm out of those boxes, which should have been here today, but will probably be here tomorrow.
-
Second set of shelves are in - and boy does it help. All the shipping supplies - boxes, labels, envelopes, shipping tape, all that stuff, are on the shelves and easy/breezy to see and find. He's out buying one more set of shelves and that will be that. All the piled-up DVDs from the house are now out there on these shelves, neat as a pin, plus a bunch of CD overflow, and plenty of room for more - next the book overflow will go on the new shelves.

DR Jose asked on Monday does anyone have a reaction to Disney buying Marvel.
My reaction is what's going to happen to Universal's Islands Of Adventure and their Marvel land.
They have 4 major rides built around Marvel characters:
The Incredible Hulk (rolller coaster), Doctor Doom Fearfall (You are taken to the top of a tower and dropped up and down), Storm Force Acceleration (In a circular car and you are spun around fast) all three can be rebranded, but my favorite ride is The Spiderman ride. You are in a car and wearing glasses as you are watching various Spiderman villains trying to take over the city and Spidey trying to stop. The car moves up and down, spins, shakes in accordance to what you are seeing. This is a great ride and wonder what will happened to it.
I can't imagine Universal Studios paying Disney Studio the right to use the characters especially since they are in competition with each other in Orlando.
BUT Universal does have one thing to look forward to: the opening of Harry Potter land opening next year

I'm sure they are not supposed to say what they do. But they are obviously influencing the houseguests!
Funny, I don't watch, heck I had no idea he was the "voice" (do you hear my cousin speaking on the show?). The first season I turned it on to catch his name in the credits not realizing the show had half an hour to go. That was more than enough for me.
All I really know about the show is that he enjoys working on it very much, and he works very hard during the season.
-
DR JMK, I don't think the story you are asking about is mine, but I'm not sure I know what the show is you are asking about anyway. If it wasn't DANCE A LITTLE CLOSER, WIND IN THE WILLOWS, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, RAGGEDY ANN, THE TIMES, ANNIE 2, CHARLIE AND ALGERNON or other turkeys I saw in the 1980's, I have no idea!
The super says George told him yesterday that he was going to the Jersey Shore. Sonuvabitch!
Next week he's getting a major bitch slapping.
Is DR Rodzinski coming back to us?

DR Matt H congratulations on a good night’s sleep!!
Friend firing vibes for DR elmore.

Elmore - i will not be doing that errand until the holiday weekend, as the delivery I'm expecting from the office will most certainly not be here before then.
-
I'm truant with my errand.
-
Jennifer the Facebook request could be a mistake. Have you checked the person’s friend’s page to see if another Jennifer accepted an invite? I received an invite meant for the other Jane.
I would not accept without knowing who the person is.
Option 1, ignore it.
Option 2, send a private message and ask.
-
I was just informed that Jane, Fred, and Skip have been adopted.
:D Great news! Vibes the others will soon be adopted!

Oh, and I agree with you Jennifer a note with a friend request is nice when you haven't been in touch with the person.

Trying to decide which composer to commission to write my own personal theme music. You know - for public appearances.
It's a pity Mother Goose is dead!

Man, what a day. So much shipping and lifting. Handy Man hasn't gotten back with shelf unit three - hoping it's soon, because he's still got an hour's worth of other stuff to do in the front of the house.
-
Just finished attending to all the details for the Brent Barrett session - a lot of work on top of an already busy day - oh, boy. But, the band is booked, and hopefully it will all go swimmingly.

Happy Birthday DR Ron Pulliam!

DR Cilla I hope Callie continues to improve.
I pray Steve does not have to go to a nursing home!!!!
Thanks Jane. Callie is doing well today. I think she ate a bug or something yesterday that upset her stomach.

DR Jose, chopped black olives mixed with a little best foods mayo. My fried would spread a little cream cheese on each slice of bread and add sliced black olives.
I still occasionally make a chopped olive sandwich when I have some challah.
Well, I like to schmear cream cheese on any dark bread and top with sliced stuffed green olives and lots of freshly cracked black pepper.

That's what I do. ::)
Yes, George, but you also ignore friends that you can place.
-
Why do people on facebook who you don't know send friend requests without a note saying who they are or why they are contacting you??
Could be spam or "friend collectors".
I clicked on the person. it is a real person. But i have no idea who it is and do not know them. And the man is over 60 so i know it's not someone i went to school with or anything like that.
Is his name Bill Six, or something like that? He tried to friend me, but I haven't a clue who it is.
I got that same person. Steve Six. Dick Six? Manny Six? Eli Six? Something like that.
I haven't been "friended" by him...now I feel left out. :'(
;)
Me either, George, but I once knew Crazy Eight.

Thanks, TCB and derBrucer!

Universal Studios has the rights in perpetuity for its Marvel Super Hero Island attraction at Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Fla., which includes rides based on Marvel characters Spider-Man, Dr. Doom, the Hulk and Storm, and features a number of other characters from the X-Men. The company, which is part of General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal, also has a 10-year-plus deal for its Spider-Man attraction at Universal Studios Japan.
It was not immediately clear, however, whether Universal's deal is exclusive or if Disney can, at some point, produce attractions based on those same characters at its theme parks.

The super's grandson just stopped by to survey the wreckage of my apartment and to say goodbye. He finishes up school in three months and says he'll be back then. His grandmother is flying back with him for a month and I said goodbye to her earlier today. She's a good lady. Dragan laughed when I said she will have forgotten all her English by the time she returns because it's not very good. Her husband's is much better, and I think Dragan's is quite good.
I've also managed to lose one of Brent's Christmas numbers today. I remember schlepping it put of the office in a shopping bag, along with a label from the paper I need to buy, but I do not remember taking it out of the cab or where I could have left it once I got to the apartment. I am not happy about this at all! Everything else is down at the office, thank God, because I need to fax to BK some orchestra parts tomorrow.
I hate getting senile.

That's elines, spelled backward.

Well if he always the voice of Big Brother (it sure sounds like him) then whenever they ask a houseguest to go to the diary room or do something then it is him speaking. Not sure if it's absolutely always a man. but they do ask them to do stuff. So i've heard the voice many times.

I had a completely varied assortment of viewing tidbits tonight.
I began with a movie I've been trying to catch up with for well over a year: FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. Another of the Christopher Guest concoctions, I liked it as much as I liked A MIGHTY WIND, but I don't think it quite matched WAITING FOR GUFFMAN or BEST IN SHOW.

There was a really amazing Bollywood group number tonight on the opening of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA.

Next I watched the CBS Fall Preview: introductions to their new series. I was glad that MEDIUM got a prime spot in their descriptions of their new shows. Didn't care for the Jenna Elfman comedy at all. I'll likely sample NCIS: LOS ANGELES though I may not make it a regular staple. THREE RIVERS did intrigue me enough to want to try to catch some episodes. THE GOOD WIFE might end up being good drama, but I wasn't overly impressed with the preview to sample it from the beginning. I may try it later since the description said the stories were close ended each week.
-
I watched the season finale of RESCUE ME which came on last night. Eh. I may be done with this series. If it weren't for the characters of Mike and Sean, I likely would have stopped watching this season.
-
I ended my evening watching tonight's LEVERAGE. Good story. I enjoyed the members of the team switching roles.

Well... I had another very nice day in Washington, DC. :)

Just hit Studio City paydirt, Adam 12-wise. In the third to final episode of season three Reed and Malloy are driving down the street - it looked familiar and as soon as they turned right I knew they were a mere four blocks from my home environment, driving south on Whitsett and turning right onto Ventura Blvd. Where now is Carny's, Staples, Aaron Brothers and one of those bed and linen places was a huge Safeway market. Who knew? And as soon as they passed that, there was the bowling alley that's adjacent to what is now Jerry's Deli. They didn't drive past the bowling alley so I couldn't see what was there. Across the street is almost virtually the same now - gas station and a row of homey shops. Then a couple of minutes later, they're in a different area, but the minute they turn right onto a new street I know it's Moorpark and Whitsett, and there's Ringside Liquor (still there, looking exactly the same) - the car repair place was, of course, a gas station, and where now sits the Oyster House bar and tiny restaurant, was some other tiny bar and restaurant whose name is obscured. They stop right in front of the store at 12436 Moorpark, which is now a hair place, I think. Where the little Studio City library is now was a Texaco gas station. Otherwise, it still looks pretty much the same.

Acually I turned it on late and it was just at the end so I watched it on the web It must have been the regular version..No leaving on a jet plane. I've set up a series recording so I shouldn't miss it again

I guess I'll continue with the Fox Blu-rays tomorrow for my work project. I guess THE GIRL NEXT DOOR will come next. I'll save the best (MASH) for last.

DR Jennifer - Even a "real person" can still be spam. Even "regular"(?) spam has to be set up by a real person. Those "friends" you see could also be spam/fake, or just people who automatically and blindly accept all Friend Requests. Don't believe everything you read and see on the Internet.
There have been some Facebook bots lately. They aren't really "malicious", however, they're being used to promote business to other websites. Actually, there's one pretty funny "viral video" out there right now on Facebook. -It's the one with the little boy dancing to "Low, Low, Low, Low." The video itself is harmless, however, the website that appears in the corner of the video is actually a porn site. :-\
-
DR Elmore - in his heart of hearts, the conductor probably already knows he's in over his head.
It is my experience as both a player and conductor that conductors resolutely refuse to admit they're in over their heads. ;D

More Studio City pay dirt, this time, rather amazingly, at the corner of Ventura Place (just north of Ventura Blvd and only one block long, from Radford to Laurel Canyon) and Radford (just south of CBS Radford). Where now resides a huge ugly black building was a Danny's Burgers and Tacos stand. Looking east from there, the building on the northeast corner of Ventura Blvd. and Radford is still there and looks exactly the same (next to what is now Samuel French). Across on the south side, is a half-block of empty space "for sale" and that's all little shops now (just east of that is now the building that houses Varese Sarabande, but which was then nothing whatsoever). But the best is when they go back to Danny's to talk to the waitress there, and the reverse shots all show Du-Par's.

Ooooohhhh... Snow Leopard... Pretty... :)

And speaking of the Oscars... ;)
Oscar Race May Heat Up at Festival in Toronto (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/movies/01toronto.html)
"...As film professionals from Los Angeles and New York converge on the 34th Toronto International Film Festival next week, they will have dozens of movies and their stars in tow. But they will also bring the makings of what promises to be the strangest awards season in recent memory.
The number of Oscar nominees will be up this year as 10 films, not 5, will get a shot at best picture, thanks to a surprise change in rules governing the Academy Awards.
But the number of films in the thick of the race — and on screens across the country — will be sharply down, unless the sprawling festival, which plans to screen 271 feature-length movies between Sept. 10 and Sept. 19, can somehow change the game..."
But...
-
But then there's this new wrinkle...
Rise in Oscar Nominees Brings New Voting Rules (http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/with-rise-in-oscar-nominees-comes-new-voting-rules/)
"...The Oscar process is clearly still in process. On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said its decision last June to double the number of best picture nominees to 10 brings with it a change in voting method.
The best picture will now be chosen by a preferential voting system, rather than the single-choice voting used in other categories..."
Hmmmm...

Good Evening!
Well... I had another very nice day in Washington, DC. :)
*And as I entered the National Gallery of Art, I ran into a friend of mine from NYC! He came down for some work this week. He drove down, so I'm just going to drive back with him Friday morning. -One more day in DC! :)
Enjoy your extra day in DC, and tell us all about it-- with pictures!!!

I believe the Summer Season has sort of delayed the Fall TV season. Or at least "confused" it. -And with "Lost" not coming back until January(?), well...
*The New York Times had a very interesting article about all the promotion that FOX has been doing for "Glee". FOX is only introducing three new shows this Fall, and it looks like the other networks also have fewer new shows being added to their rosters this coming season.

How do you fire someone you like and wish well?
oh dear - that is very difficult - I am sorry that you are in that position and I am afraid I have no wise words of advise - but you do have my sincer sympathy

However...

My treat was two cupcakes. But I'm kinda still thinking I should eat something - maybe some eggs, if I can rustle up someone to go sit with me at Jerry's or Du-Par's.

No, I haven't heard (or heard of) her, but then again, as I'm sure you're aware, Oregon is a veritable hotbed of traditional Indian Karaikudi vina music, so it's hard to keep all the players straight.

My left shoulder has been aching for the past oh - year or so - but considering the variousother issue I was dealing with it was a low priority - I finally had it xrayed last weekand the verdict came back - I have arthritis
I suppose it is better news than what I was fearing - a torn rotator cuff -
the constant ache is annoying but I can deal with it - and ther's always Tylenol Arthritis formula for when it gets too bad

DR vixmom - Arthritis is most definitely a better diagnosis than a torn rotator cuff. Massage can help ease some of the pain too. Does the vixdad have good hands? ;)

Vixdad has been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new hamburger joint 'Five Guys Burgers' as he loves loves loves the one by his office in Brooklyn.
Yesterday I noticede that the shop was open - (turns out yesterday was the grand opening) so tonight that is where we went for dinner
I must say the burger and the FREE toppings ( I had double grilled mushrooms and cheese) were very very yummy and the fries are Fantastic
the prices are also much more reasonable than Cheeburger Cheeburger
I foresee many more trips to Five Guys in our future
-
Apparently everyone in LA reads these here posts and notes because all of a sudden there are no more metal shelving units anywhere. Unbelievable. So, we won't be able to finish this until the weekend, if then, and only if they have one out in Calabassas. This is the price one pays for becoming the most popular site on all the Internet.

Yep, Five Guys makes a very tasty burger. Very tasty! -And then there are the fries! Good and greasy, but in a good and greasy kind of way. :) -And, remember, one order of fries will feed a family of six, so order accordingly.
*One of the original Five Guys (http://fiveguys.com/home.aspx) locations is in Alexandria, VA. It's right next to Jefferson Memorial Hospital which is where my mom used to work - she ran the kitchen there (at the hospital, not Five Guys). I was sort of wary when I heard that the Murrell's wanted to start franchising, but they've set up a great system for opening up each new location that insures their quality and consistency. The biggest part of that "system" is that one of the "Five Guys" - one of the five sons of the founders - directly oversees the start-up of each franchise location.

That's pretty cool, BK, seeing where you live on a TV show. I only know of a few movies that were filmed here in Olympia ("Heart Like a Wheel" and "Body of Evidence" are two that I can think of), but a regular TV show has never filmed here. Seattle, but not Olympia.
